Eighteen year old Ramius Hardiman, from Cedar Rapids, Iowa was sentenced to three years' probation for involuntary manslaughter. He had entered a no contest plea to the charge. The allegations was that he was driving drunk, which led to a wreck that killed a teenage passenger in his car. In addition to probation, he was ordered to pay over $181,000 in restitution.
If this would have occurred in Johnson County, KS, it is highly unlikely he would have received probation. As any Kansas criminal defense lawyer will tell you, Johnson County is generally more strict than most other places when dealing with DUI.
