Apparently, drunk driving is down 30% and it's due to the poor economy. The CDC data reports that self-reported drunk driving among adults was down 30% from 161 million instances in 2006 to about 112 million in 2010. It's believed that the durnk driving is down as more people are simply drinking at home, rather than at more expensive places out on the town such as bars and other establishments serving alcohol.
The CDC said, "Possible factors include less discretionary driving as a result of the current economic downturn … and possible changes in drinking location to places where driving is not required such as at home." 1.8% of respondents admitted to at least one drunk driving incident in the past 30 days. According to local DUI criminal defense lawyers, the economy is even affecting the prosperous Johnson County, Kansas community.
